La Blanquette – Bed & Breakfast

lb_blog_52

After five successful years at La Blanquette, co-owners Mr & Mrs Dolman (a.k.a head-chef Julie and wild-woodsman Frank!) have decided to enjoy full retirement and spend more time with their three pugs, campervan and in their local village pub back in the UK.

Therefore the B&B has now closed so that Nik and Jason can focus on running the Gites, Glamping and City Pad accommodation.

We would all like to say a big thank you to all the B&B guests that have supported us and that we have welcomed and hosted at La Blanquette since 2012.

Although the B&B is now closed, we’d love to welcome our past B&B guests again to the Dordogne to stay in our lovely Gites, Glamping and City Pad accommodation.

We will shortly be announcing some new exciting developments that will complement the fantastic accommodation we offer here in the stunning Dordogne Valley… watch this space!

Sarlat Rugby

lb_blog_26

With the relegation of C.A.Brive last season from the French Top 14 the nearest top-flight rugby teams are now Bordeaux, Toulouse or Agen, sadly all are about two hours drive away.

However, locally the Sarlat team (CASPN – Club  Athlétique  Sarlat  Périgord  Noir) are doing very well, and were promoted last season to Federale 2 in the French Rugby Federation and are consolidating their position very well in the top half of the table.

The stadium (Stade de Madrazes) is very close to La Blanquette, a few minutes drive or about 45 minutes walk and is on our side of the town. Home games are generally played on a Sunday, and adult tickets are about 7 Euros. It’s 2 Euros for a beer from the bar underneath the main stand.

There’s always a good family atmosphere at the matches and at the game we watched today the hosts beat Angouleme (who are currently the league leaders), it was a great effort by the Sarlat team.

More information and news on fixtures can be found on the rugby club’s website : CASPN

Sarlat – Guided Walking Tour

 lb_blog_12

An ideal way to enjoy the architecture and understand some of the history of the town of Sarlat is to join one of the Office de Tourisme’s guided walking tours.

During the Summer months (May to October) these start from the Tourist Office on Wednesdays at 11am and are conducted in many different languages. We joined one at the end of May on a very warm day (although the guide seemed to be wrapped up in her Winter coat!). After picking up a ticket the tour starts and you are taken on a relaxed one hour walk through the cobbled streets of Sarlat and the guide talks knowledgeably through many of the features and architectural history of the town.

Wednesday is also the mid-week market day, and in Summer this can be quite busy with tourists generally. However, the walking tour doesn’t feel crowded and is a good way to get around and see Sarlat’s great buildings without getting overwhelmed by the market throngs.

Although the Wednesday tour is one you can just turn up and join on the day, the Office de Tourisme also organises tours for larger groups. More information can be found on their website : Sarlat Office de Tourisme.
